About Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra. The Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra, drawn from the Rig Veda and repeated in the Yajurveda, addresses Lord Shiva as Tryambaka, the three-eyed one, and asks for release from illness, fear, and untimely death, as freely as a ripe cucumber falls from its vine. It is one of the most sacred and widely chanted mantras in Hinduism, recited for healing, protection, and longevity, often 108 times with a mala, and especially during illness or before surgery.
