About Gayatri Mantra. The Gayatri Mantra is the most venerated verse of the Rig Veda, addressed to Savitr, the sun as the source of all light and life, and personified in worship as Goddess Gayatri, mother of the Vedas. It is traditionally attributed to Rishi Vishwamitra and asks that our intellect be illumined so we may perceive and follow the path of truth. It is chanted at sunrise, noon, and sunset during sandhya vandanam, and remains one of the most widely recited mantras in Hindu daily practice.
